Brita Madison

Picture
Brita Madison is a reluctant psychic. Reluctant because she doesn't understand anything about it. Reluctant because being psychic has brought her nothing but pain in her life. Reluctant because she wants a normal life.

Growing up in a small, but very religious town in west Texas, Brita was met with resistance from the first moment her parents became aware she was different. Zealous about their religious beliefs, her parents turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to what their daughter was going through. As a child, she did not know where the voices  or the images were coming from, and she did not know her "friends" were visible to no one but herself because they were dead.

Her parents forced her to undergo humiliating rituals to free her from her "demons." It did not take her long to learn to hide these things from her parents and others, that is, until the day she had a precognitive vision. In it she saw her parents being killed in a car accident. In trying to warn them, she unintentionally sealed their fate. Their fixed beliefs would never let them allow her "vision" to have any influence on their lives, and yet, it did.

After going to university and majoring in English, which allowed her the expertise to work out of her home as an editor for magazines, publishing houses, and online companies, Brita moves to Flagstaff, Arizona, but she isn't prepared for the onslaught of visions and voices.

For the sake of her sanity, she moves again, this time to the small town of Williams, Arizona, where her life is turned upside down.

James Weston

Picture
James Weston considered himself the poster boy for conservative before meeting Brita Madison. With a degree in criminology, he had followed in his father's footsteps, becoming Chief of Police in Williams, Arizona, after his father's death  in a boating accident.

His mother died when he was young, leaving him in the care of an alcoholic and demanding father whom he could never please. After university, he married Jenna, whose ambitions as a graphic designer were too big for small town Williams, and they were divorced after only three years. His only close friend, Josh Morrison, lives in Flagstaff, making his social life rather staid most of the time.

James has always been determined to maintain the respect of his office - no weakness, no drinking, no gambling, no good-ol'-boy culture. Although dedicated to catching the bad guys, he doesn't get many chances to work on high profile cases in Williams. Still, he is a small town kind of guy so he finds solace in being able to live and work in a place he loves.

He has always lived by the rules, that is, until he meets Brita Madison. His initial reaction to her is typical for law enforcement. Still, he can't ignore the facts in front of him. There is something going on with her that is beyond his understanding, but if she can help him solve his case, he is willing to take a chance.

He had no idea at the time, but he was headed into places he would never have gone on his own. Meeting Brita is the beginning of a new life for him.

Roger Dawson

Picture
Roger Dawson is a small town detective in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Obviously his work is not all-consuming, but Dawson finds things to occupy his mind and expand his knowledge of law enforcement.

When he is drawn into the murder investigation by Chief Weston and Brita Madison, he is unfazed by Brita's abilities. He jumps at the chance to join them in pursuit of the Route 66 Killer. Little did he know then the changes it would create in his life.

The Paranormal Six

The Paranormal Five come into being because they are all writers of the paranormal. “Not werewolves and stuff,” as Meg Ennis would say, “mental stuff that connects  you with things outside your normal reach.” They met through writers’ conferences and became fast friends because they not only write about the paranormal, but each has certain abilities themselves. They had been searching for an editor who also has abilities, but you can’t just advertise for an editor who has supernatural abilities. It would bring out the nutcases.

In 2015, a bit of serendipity makes them aware of Brita Madison, an editor who not only sees visions but works with a policeman to solve crimes. They can hardly wait to approach her. The next year they arrange to meet with her in Phoenix, not far from Williams, Arizona. What happens next not only creates the Paranormal Six, bringing
Meg Ennis, Shana Witherspoon, Robin Jackson, Linda Olivi, and Jackie Goodroe together with Brita, but it changes all their lives forever.
